Cry of My Heart

#2165 TFWS

Welcome

Threshold Moment

P:"Please give your servant a discerning mind in order to govern your people and to distinguish good from evil, because no one is able to govern this important people of yours without your help." 1 Kings 3:9

P:King Solomon prays to God for the wisdom he will need to be a good king and then that wisdom is put right to the test as we see two mothers come to Solomon with their dispute. This text not only uplifts wisdom as a part of the blueprint of God's house, but reveals something about what exactly is considered wise–showing the ability to empathize with people deeply enough that you may invoke their compassion and get them to act on it.

How Lovely Is Your Dwelling Place Oh Lord, God, of Hosts (three times)

Invocation

L:Come and seek the ways of Wisdom, she who danced when earth was new.

All:Follow closely what she teaches, for her words are right and true.

L:Wisdom clears the path to justice,

All:showing us what love must do. Amen

Passing the Peace

Pastor:The Peace of Christ be with you.

All:And also with you.

Pastor:You are invited to pass the peace among you, remembering to pass it to those joining us remotely.

These Days

These days, my heart's always on the run
These days, the world's spinning out of control, oh
These days are fast and they're furious
Feels like the worst is ahead of us, oh, oh
Sometimes it's hard to feel at home, but

I believe that you and I
Are in the right place, at the right time
God called us by name
And He doesn't make mistakes

I know we were born to shine bright
In a dark world that needed some light
Don't have to be afraid
Maybe we were made for these days
Maybe we were made for these days

What if the beauty isn't crushed?
It just needs the hope that's inside of us, oh, oh
What if it's more than a destiny?
What if we're part of a masterpiece? Oh, oh
Until our Father brings us home

I believe that you and I
Are in the right place, at the right time
God called us by name
And He doesn't make mistakes
I know we were born to shine bright
In a dark world that needed some light
Don't have to be afraid
Maybe we were made for these days
Maybe we were made (for these days!)

'Cause staying when it gets hard
To love with open arms
It's something to embrace
Maybe we were made for these days

I believe that you and I
Are in the right place, at the right time
God called us by name
And He doesn't make mistakes
I know we were born to shine bright
In a dark world that needed some light
Don't have to be afraid
Maybe we were made for these days
Maybe we were made (for these days)

The Wisdom Pattern: Order, Disorder, Reorder - Richard Rohr

"Healthy religion gives us a foundational sense of awe. It re-enchants an otherwise empty universe. It gives people a universal reverence toward all things. Only with such reverence do we find confidence and coherence. Only then does the world become a safe home. Then we can see the reflection of the divine image in the human, in the animal, in the entire natural world—which has now become inherently 'supernatural.' That is the paradox, and all dualistic language will henceforth fail us."

COMMUNITY PRAYER ~ THE LORD'S PRAYER

Sung in Echo

Our Mother, Father, Our Mother, Father

Who art in heaven, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name, Hallowed be thy name

Thy Kingdom come, Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven, On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day, Give us this day

Our daily bread, Our daily bread

And forgive us all our sins, And forgive us all our sins

And lead us not, And lead us not

Into temptation, Into temptation

But deliver us from evil, But deliver us from evil

For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory

Forever, Forever

And ever, And ever

Our Mother, Father, Our Mother, Father

Who art in heaven, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name, Hallowed be thy name

Ancient Readings

1 Kings 3:4-9, 16-28

4The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the principal high place; Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, "Ask what I should give you." 6And Solomon said, "You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant my father David because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you, and you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne today. 7And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, although I am only a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted. 9Give your servant, therefore, an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil, for who can govern this great people of yours?"

16Later, two women who were prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. 17The one woman said, "Please, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth while she was in the house. 18Then on the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. We were together; there was no one else with us in the house; only the two of us were in the house. 19Then this woman's son died in the night because she lay on him. 20She got up in the middle of the night and took my son from beside me while your servant slept. She laid him at her breast and laid her dead son at my breast. 21When I rose in the morning to nurse my son, I saw that he was dead, but when I looked at him closely in the morning, clearly it was not the son I had borne." 22But the other woman said, "No, the living son is mine, and the dead son is yours." The first said, "No, the dead son is yours, and the living son is mine." So they argued before the king.

23Then the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son who is alive, and your son is dead,' while the other says, 'Not so! Your son is dead, and my son is the living one.' " 24So the king said, "Bring me a sword," and they brought a sword before the king. 25The king said, "Divide the living boy in two; then give half to the one and half to the other." 26But the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because compassion for her son burned within her, "Please, my lord, give her the living boy; certainly do not kill him!" The other said, "It shall be neither mine nor yours; divide it." 27Then the king responded, "Give her the living boy; do not kill him. She is his mother." 28All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to execute justice.
