Welcome

Threshold Moment

Gwen:Friends, we gather today at the edge of the familiar. Like Peter by the Sea of Galilee, we have worked hard, we have toiled, and sometimes we feel we have caught nothing. Yet, the Divine Voice calls us from the shore to the boat. Jesus asks us to push out—not just into the water, but into the deep, challenging places of our world: into the places of systemic change, into the depths of vulnerability. We leave behind what we thought we knew, to follow Jesus.

“Come Out!” · Mark Miller

Come out! Come out of your comfortable spaces.
Come, meet Jesus in the difficult places.

Opening Prayer

All:Holy One, you call us from the familiar shores to the deep, turbulent waters of justice and grace. We come as we are—weary, hopeful, questioning, and ready to follow The Way. As we gather to sing, pray, and listen, open our hearts to your call. Amen.

Passing the Peace

Gwen:The Peace of Christ be with you.

All:And also with you.

Gwen:You are invited to pass the peace among you, remembering to pass it to those joining us remotely.

Young & Young at Heart Time

Contemporary Reading

by Madeleine L’Engle

We do not draw people to Christ by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.

COMMUNITY PRAYER ~ THE LORD’S PRAYER

Sung in Echo

Our Mother, Father, Our Mother, Father

Who art in heaven, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name, Hallowed be thy name

Thy Kingdom come, Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven, On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day, Give us this day

Our daily bread, Our daily bread

And forgive us all our sins, And forgive us all our sins

And lead us not, And lead us not

Into temptation, Into temptation

But deliver us from evil, But deliver us from evil

For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory

Forever, Forever

And ever, And ever

Our Mother, Father, Our Mother, Father

Who art in heaven, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name, Hallowed be thy name

LUKE 5:1-11

Once while Jesus was standing beside the Lake of Gennesaret and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, 2 he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. 4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5Simon answered, “Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to burst. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. 8But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’s knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!” 9For he and all who were with him were astounded at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” 11When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.
